Map of the trails of the Szarvas Arboretum

Hungary’s biggest Arboretum was established by the family Bolza at the end of the 19th century. Groves of trees, wide variety of plants and shrubs, and grasslands makes the gardens unique and beautiful in every season. The spring flowering and the autumn colouring give a magic background to the garden. Which has 5  dendrological collections on 82 hectares. The garden has more than 1600 rare plant species. 

The most precious and eldest collection is the so called “Pepi-garden”, placed in the middle of the Arboretum, between the hundred year old trees rich flora and fauna creates a unique island in the treeless lowland environment. 

As a result of the developments year by year the garden was enhanced continuously. The carefully managed area provides rich habitat for many forms of nature. The protected natural area of national interest is under supervision by Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), functioning as a relevant education and research centre.

The Arboretum has 100.000 visitors/ year making it a major tourist destination in the region. In addition to enjoying the arboretum and its nature walks there are many other events to enjoy. Refreshments are available at the cafe.

Services

The Arboretum is open all year every day till dark. Tickets are available until 18.30 pm in the evening at the  main entrance. Beside the pleasant walk in the gardens the Mini-Hungary model park is also open to the public. 

During the tourist season the Katalin II. pleasure boat is available every hour. During the trip the tourists can have a look at the centre of historical Hungary and the town’s sights. The guesthouse is available for small conferences and meetings, it also accommodates up to 15 people. Various activities including guided nature and interactive tours will be announced during the day. 

Souvenirs and ornamental plants can be purchased in the gift shop, which is open from the 15th of March till the 15th of November, every day from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. The town is accessible from the Arboretum by bus or bikes available for hire.
